Last week, an FIR was slapped on 49 celebrities for writing a letter to Narendra Modi in July. Mani Ratnam, Anurag Kashyap, Revathy, Adoor Gopalakrishnan, Aparna Sen, Ramchandra Guha, Konkona Sensharma and others had written that intolerance was growing in India. A case filed in Bihar said that the 49 celebs had committed crimes under IPC, including sedition, public nuisance, and hurting religious feelings.
The news is that the case has been dropped by the Bihar police. Preliminary investigation had proved that there is no substance in the FIR. The celebs won't be tried. On the other hand, the complainant will be subjected to prosecution.
After the FIR, there was an uproar against the attempts to suppress freedom of speech. Kamal Haasan, Prakash Raj and other film celebs condemned the move of the Bihar police to admit the FIR.
