'Kabali' and 'Kaala' director Pa Ranjith is in trouble because of some remarks he recently made about the regime of Chola King Raja Raja Chola. The filmmaker described the period as a dark phase of Tamil Nadu's history, as the period "saw Dalits being deprived of their lands". He also opined that lands should be taken away from Hindu mutts and given back to Dalits.
After much outrage on social media, a police complaint has been filed against Ranjith at the Thirupanandhal police station in Tanjore. A case has been filed against the director for "inciting caste, religious and racial feelings and for provoking violence".
Currently, the director is producing several movies, and is working on his Bollywood debut, which is a biopic on the legendary tribal leader and freedom fighter Birsa Munda.
