Vijayakanth, the legendary Tamil actor and the founder of the DMDK party, passed away on December 28, 2023 in Chennai at the age of 71. Apart from his achievements as an actor and politician, the veteran was known for his philanthropy and goodwill. He was fondly called 'Captain' and 'Puratchi Kalaignar'.
The government announced the Padma Awards for individuals today. As per the latest update, Captain Vijayakanth will be bestowed with the prestigious Padma Bhushan posthumously. He has been awarded the Padma Bhushan in recognition of his service to the arts. This is now doing rounds on the internet.
A total of 17 people have been awarded the Padma Bhushan and here are the full details:
