Captain Vijayakanth is known for his philanthropic activities which he did even before entering politics without aiming for any publicity. He used to open his office doors for anyone to go and have a hearty meal and was always there to help anyone in need. These qualities helped him make a huge impact in the Jayalalitha- Karunanidhi era when he faced electoral victories and became the opposition leader.
Yesterday Vijayakanth announced that he is ready to give half the properties of his Aandar Azhagar College on the outskirts of Chennai to bury coronavirus patients who are being denied burial or cremation fearing the disease spread.
A video has surfaced on the internet that shows that even twenty years back in 2000 , Vijayakanth offered all his wealth except legal inheritances to his wife and sons in a public meeting of the DMDK. He then spoke confidently that he does not value money and even if he loses everything he knows that his people will feed him happily a square meal.
The video reminds us that if only Vijayakanth was in the pink of health he would have made the biggest impact on Tamil Nadu politics and in his bold style would have always formulated people friendly schemes and policies. A philanthropist in the true sense of the word among many pretenders.
