When Captain Vijayakanth first entered politics in the year 2005 and launched his party the DMDK he was a formidable force in the Tamil Nadu state garnering 10 percent vote share and became the leader of the opposition in the 2011 assembly elections.

However, in the past few years, Vijayakanth's health has alarmingly deteriorated and he underwent treatment in the US for the past several months as well. The Puratchi Kalaigniar as he is lovingly called has given his first short interview which has been released on his Twitter page.

Vijayakanth has stated in the interview that his health is now improved but only on doctor's advice he will participate in election campaigns. He slammed the DMK as a fraudulent party and said that the ADMK-DMDK-BJP alliance is a just one and will win with flying colors in the upcoming elections. He has also stated that Prime Minister Narendra Modi is a good man and should be voted back to power as well.
