Renowned veteran actor and Desiya Murpokku Dravida Kazhagam (DMDK) leader, Vijayakanth, is currently receiving medical treatment at a hospital in Chennai. Despite regular health check-ups and periods of rest at home, recent health issues compelled his admission to a private hospital in Chennai.

Now on the third day of his hospitalization, Vijayakanth is contending with a cold, fever, and persistent cough. Medical authorities attending to him have observed his struggle with breathing difficulties, leading to intermittent reliance on artificial respiration. This has prompted an outpouring of support and prayers from his fans and volunteers, all hoping for his swift recovery and safe return home.

Before venturing into politics, Vijayakanth enjoyed a successful career in Tamil cinema. His foray into a prominent political role saw him establish and lead the DMDK as its chairman in the Tamil Nadu legislative assembly. Notably, he held the position of Leader of the Opposition in the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly from 2011 to 2016.

Vijayakanth's political journey included serving two terms as a Member of the Legislative Assembly, representing the constituencies of Virudhachalam and Rishivandiyam.
