Lil Tay, the Canadian child rapper known for her controversial online presence, has confirmed that reports of her death were a hoax. Just a day after her official Instagram account announced the tragic passing of both herself and her brother, the internet sensation emerged to reveal that her account had been hacked.
In a statement to TMZ, Tay expressed her distress over the situation, clarifying that she and her brother are safe and alive. She shared her turmoil of receiving numerous distressing calls from loved ones while dealing with the aftermath of the hack.
According to Tay, her Instagram account fell victim to a third-party breach, resulting in the spread of false information and rumors about her. She emphasized that her legal name is Tay Tian, not "Claire Hope," as wrongly stated during the hoax. She extended gratitude to Instagram's owner, Meta, for their assistance in recovering her account.
The puzzling events unfolded when an announcement of Tay and her brother's death was posted on her Instagram account, which boasts 3.3 million followers. The post, since deleted, conveyed profound grief and shock over the sudden and unexpected passing of both siblings.
While Tay's management confirmed the news to Variety initially, doubts soon arose. Media outlets were unable to verify the deaths in Vancouver or Los Angeles, where Tay resides. Her former manager and even her father refrained from confirming the authenticity of the statement.
Lil Tay gained notoriety for her provocative social media posts, presenting an extravagant lifestyle at a young age. Her tumultuous journey included a docuseries and a sudden hiatus, entangled in a custody battle between her parents.
As of now, there is no further update on the platform to clarify the situation following Tay's revelation that the news of her death was a hoax.
