In a shocking development, Cafe Coffee Day founder VG Siddhartha has been missing since last night. A letter purportedly written by him to the CCD board is out.
In the depressing letter, VG talks about his "financial troubles" and the "failed business model" of CCD. He says that a private equity partner has been compelling him to buy back shares just six months after he "partially completed the transaction by borrowing from a friend". He also talks about the "harassment" by tax authorities.
As per early reports, VG went to Mangalore on Monday night in his car driven by his driver. He asked his driver to stop near a bridge, got down and went for a "walk". He has been missing since then. A person is suspected to have jumped off a bridge on Netravati River. Some believe that that person could be VG himself.
VG is the son-in-law of former Karnataka CM SM Krishna.
Social media is terribly shocked today. DP Satish said, "What a horrible news to wake up to. Cafe Coffee Day founder VG Siddhartha is missing. A gentleman, who popularised Coffee drinking across India. Known for his business acumen. Hope and pray."
