The Union cabinet has delivered the sweetest news to the Indian film industry in general in the form of an amendment to the Cinematograph Act 1952. According to Union Law Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad, here is the biggest change:
"If one, without authorization, undertakes digital duplication of various creative works or by any other means of digital technology, one can be made to suffer three-year jail punishment and Rs 10 lakh fine.".
The southern film industries, especially Tollywood and Kollywood, and Bollywood, have been relentlessly affected by piracy.
