Obsessions over celebrities are quite common. However, when it becomes over-the-top and turns into stalking, the question of concern over the safety of celebrities arises. Popular Bollywood producer-director Ekta Kapoor is the recent victim of one such obsession, as a 32-year-old cab driver has been charged with stalking the producer nearly 30 times before she filed a complaint against him.
Haryana-based Sudhir Rajender Singh, who works for a private cab service provider, was reportedly spotted frequently at the places Ekta Kapoor visited. Several times, he was found waiting near the gym she usually went to. When he followed her to a temple in Juhu, her security guards apparently warned him to stay away from her. It was after his relentless stalking that the producer got fed up and decided to lodge a formal complaint against him.
The accused, who claims to be a fan of Ekta, reportedly wanted to befriend her and get a chance to work for her. An officer involved in the case said, “We have registered the complaint under section 354 (D) of the Indian Penal Code and with the help of CCTV and some technical evidence the accused was traced from Andheri west Veera Desai road. The case is under investigation.” He added that the police were on the lookout for the person who provided the cab driver with Ekta’s exact location details every single time.
