'GodFather' actress Nayanthara and her husband Vignesh Shivan recently welcomed their twins. Media reports have since stated that they had opted for surrogacy.

Many are alleging that the couple gave birth through surrogacy by adapting illegal means, given commercial surrogacy has been banned in India since January this year. In the light of the allegations, a complaint was lodged with the Tamil Nadu government and a three-member committee started an inquiry for discrepancies if any.

Nayanthara and Vignesh Shivan, meanwhile, are reported to have submitted legal documents to prove that they had married six years ago and that the marriage was registered with the registrar of marriages. Further, documents were provided that the couple signed the surrogacy agreement in December 2021 and not after their public marriage on June 9 this year, which would have been illegal.

One hopes the controversy surrounding the same will come to an end soon.
