As many as 10 Transporters’ Unions have announced that their members won’t operate buses tomorrow (05th January) when the DMK has called for a total ‘shutdown’ in the State to pressurize the BJP-led Centre on the issue of (setting up of) Cauvery Management Board (CMB).
DMK has already started its relay protest across the State as its cadres have been indulging in various protests such as fast-protest, road-roko and jail-bharo, etc. In an apparent effort to ensure that the shutdown remains ‘total’, party’s working president M.K. Stalin had earlier appealed to Vikramaraja (president of Tamil Nadu Merchants’ Association) to shutdown all commercial establishments on Thursday.
At a meeting held in Chennai, representatives of 10 Trade Unions (most of them affiliated to the DMK) announced that their members (drivers) won’t be operating buses tomorrow (Thursday) to express their solidarity with the on-going protests across the State on the Cauvery issue.
It may be noted that most auto-rickshaws plying in the city have already pasted a notification on their back stating that auto-rickshaw services won’t be available to commuters on Thursday, thus making life tough for them.
