Allu Arjun is sorry that Swami Gyan Swaroop Sanand, aka GD Agarwal, is no more. For the starters, the saint has died today in his fight for cleaning the holy Ganga.
The saint, a well-regarded environmentalist, had been on an indefinite fast since June 22, trying to impress upon the government on the need to clean up River Ganga. Suffering a heart attack, the 87-year-old Swami breathed his last at the AIIMS hospital in Rishikesh.
He was consuming water mixed with honey for the 109 days during which he fasted. With talks with officials not progressing as desired, the saint stopped consuming even water.
Reportedly, the saint was a professor at the Indian Institute of Technology-Kanpur in the past.
