There were always doubts around whether 'Bullett Raja' would indeed take a rollicking start at the box office. As hinted in this column last week, rejection of many 'masala' movies in the last few weeks and absence of chartbuster songs in 'Bullett Raja' were always expected to be hindrance for the Saif Ali Khan starrer. Still, a start of 40%-50% was still expected at the bare minimum.
Now this is the sad part because the footfalls on the opening day were only half of these minimal expectations. With just around 25%-30% opening, the writing was clear on the wall that for this Tigmanshu Dhulia film to succeed at the box office, word of mouth as well as reviews had to be nothing less than terrific. This didn't really turn out to be the case though since reviews were largely average to good while word of mouth too was on the same lines. That mighty escalation which could have taken the film to a different level was missing though, as a result of which 'Bullett Raja' struggled right through the weekend.
The first day collections were just around 7 crore which is one of the lowest that has been seen for a big film this year. With no real jump on Saturday and Sunday, the weekend collections too settled around the 23 crore mark, hence proving to be below average. The weekdays aren't really expected to turn the tide and since there are only four days to bring on moolah, considering Shahid Kapoor's 'R... Rajkumar' arriving next, 'Bullett Raja' hasn't quite turned out to be a speedy bullet that could rule like a 'raja'.
