The political slugfest over Delhi's Jahangirpuri communal violence that unfolded on the day of Hanuman Jayanthi has reached a new high. The BJP-led North Delhi Municipal Corporation wants to mow down the houses of illegal Bangladeshi immigrants living in the area (as per a news report, about 1 lakh illegal immigrants are living in the area). The saffron party favours the homes of the riot-accused to be run over by bulldozers. The Supreme Court of India has stayed the anti-encroachment drive backed by the NDMC.
The Aam Admi Party, which is governing Delhi, is critical of the anti-encroachment drive because it is arbitrary and draconian. The Arvind Kejriwal-led party is of the opinion that due process should be followed before any illegal construction is razed down.
In the meantime, AAP MLA and leader Atishi said that bulldozing over the headquarters of the BJP party will put an end to riots across India. "BJP is getting all these riots done. We guarantee, send bulldozers to BJP HQ, the riots of the entire country will stop," she tweeted. Another leader said that Amit Shah's home should be razed down.
The AAP's official Twitter handle, too, made a similar tweet.
