Ravin David Bhujan, resident DJ of one of the world's best known nightclubs, the Buddha Bar in Paris, says his very spiritual music comes from India.
"I keep returning to India because it inspires my music," the 38-year-old DJ who is popularly known as Ravin and who admits to liking Kareena Kapoor, told IANS here.
Born to an Indian father and French mother in Mauritius, Ravin was exposed to Indian music very early in life.
"I literally grew up with Indian music - classical music, Bollywood music, everything," said the DJ, who has been to India five times but is visiting the capital only the first time.
"That has stayed with me for my whole life. Indian spiritualism just resonates in the music I play."
Ravin began his musical journey at a music shop in Paris before meeting the legendary Claude Challe, the owner of "Les Bains Douches", one of the hottest Parisian nightspots in the eighties.
Challe introduced him to electronic fusion and world music. After making his debut with Challe on records like The Flying Carpet, Lover dose and Nirvana Lounge, Ravin arrived at the Buddha Bar in 1997.
There, with Challe, he made the now world famous Buddha Bar music compilations.
"Buddha Bar is like a temple," said Ravin. "It's not a temple of the gods but of love, great music, wonderful music. There the music is very mystical, with very heavy Indian influences, fabulous chants and beats.
"We take all this straight from the land of the gurus - India. My Indian roots help me at every step, in every note I compose."
The man who adores the voices of Mukesh, Lata and Asha is also happy about the way the club scene is developing in India.
"Athena in Mumbai, for instance, is really cool," said Ravin, talking about Mumbai's best-loved watering hole. "It has a great sound system and the atmosphere is very relaxed."
And Ravin, still a bachelor, is hoping he'll find the woman of his dreams in India.
"Why not? Indian women are so pretty," he said. "I really, really like Kareena Kapoor."
