Game of Thrones actress dies of cancer

Award-winning British actress Diana Rigg, who played the role of Olenna Tyrell in the American TV series 'Game of Thrones', died six months after being diagnosed with cancer, at the age of 82.

Diana Rigg, who rose to fame following her portrayal of Emma Peel in the 1960s British espionage TV series 'The Avengers,' was popular among the youth for her role as the matriarch of House Tyrell in the famous TV show 'Game of Thrones.' The legendary actress was diagnosed with cancer in March and apparently died peacefully in her sleep at her London home on September 10, according to her daughter Rachael Stirling. My Beloved Ma died peacefully in her sleep early this morning, at home, surrounded by family. She died of cancer diagnosed in March, and spent her last months joyfully reflecting on her extraordinary life, full of love, laughter and a deep pride in her profession. I will miss her beyond words, she reportedly mentioned in her statement.

Rigg also starred as James Bond's wife in the 1969 film On Her Majesty's Secret Service, alongside George Lazenby. For half her life Diana was the most beautiful woman in the room, but she was what used to be called a Trouper. She went to work with her sleeves rolled up and a smile for everyone. Her talent was luminous, British playwright Tom Stoppard said in a statement.
