Breaking! Raids on multiplexes; Police cases filed

From August 1, multiplexes and single screens in Hyderabad were asked by the municipal authorities to sell packaged eatables only at the MRP price. If they are selling them in separate packs, they are obligated to mention the price of the product on the packs.

But the new rules have been practised more in the breach. Following the violations, vigilance officials on Monday carried out raids on some major multiplexes like PVR, Inorbit, and RK Cineplex (Cinemax).

Said the Vigilance Controller, "We initiated the raids because they are breaching the norms. They are continuing to sell eatables at obscene prices." Billing machines have been seized.

At a multiplex, the staff reportedly tried to prevent vigilance officials from entering the premises. Police cases have been filed against them for causing obstruction of duty.
