Thalapathy Vijay's 'Mersal' had his magician character speaking about how Singapore is providing free hospitals collecting 7 percent GST while there is no such facility in India after collecting four times more at 28 percent GST.  There has been negative reactions from BJP leaders, Tamilisai Soundarajan and H. Raja regarding this.

The news has now surfaced that Sri Thenandal Studios producer Murali has held talks with Union Minister Pon Radkhakrishnan regarding this issue and has decided to delete the controversial scenes from the blockbuster film 'Mersal'.  There is no official word about whether such a conversation took place or whether a decision has been made to go ahead with the cuts.  However one thing that is certain is that there is political pressure from the central ruling party as their regional heads are obviously irked by the crowd pleasing dialogues.
