After Covishiled and Covaxin, we now have the third vaccine. The Indian government has approved the Sputnik V vaccine for emergency use. The coronavirus vaccine, which is in the third stage of clinical trials, will be produced by Dr Reddy’s. It's reported that the pharma giant has entered into a deal with Russian makers to produce 200 million shots.
Sputnik V has got the highest effectiveness (foreign studies have put its effectiveness at 91.6%) among all the available vaccine candidates.
Covaxin, too, was first authorized for emergency use in January in the absence of efficacy data. Sputnik V has received emergency use authorization after months of various developments at the highest level.
Contrary to the talk that India has done it in the wake of vaccine shortages, several past reports indicate that Dr. Reddy's had applied for approval to manufacture it in February itself.
