The Home Ministry on Thursday took a decision to ban anywhere from 900 to 2,200 Tablighi Jamaatis from entering India for 10 years. As quoted by ANI, "960 blacklisted foreign nationals have been banned for 10 years from travelling to India for their involvement in Tablighi Jamaat's activities."
As per a Times Of India reporter, however, more than 2,200 foreigners of the Islamic fundamentalist organization have been banned. They had entered the country on a tourist visa but participated in religious activities.
In March-April, the Islamist organization was in the news over the Nizamuddin super-spreader event in Delhi. Owing to the Nizamuddin Markaz in the capital city in March, hundreds of Covid-19 infections were caused. The Markaz was held in violation of rules. Many States, especially in the North, had a tough time tracing its attendees due to non-cooperation.
The organization has attracted bad press, thanks also to the sickening behaviour of some of its members against paramedics and others during quarantine.
