MJ Akbar, the Minister of State for External Affairs, has resigned. He has been accused of sexually harassing 16 women at different times during his stint with journalism in the past. He has gone to the court and has filed defamation against Priya Ramani, a journalist, for making "baseless and wild allegations".

Bowing to demands for his resignation, Akbar has finally called it quits. "Since I have decided to seek justice in a court of law in my personal capacity, I deem it appropriate to step down from office and challenge false accusations levied against me, also in a personal capacity.

I have, therefore, tendered my resignation from the office of Minister of State for External Affairs. I am deeply grateful to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and to the External Affairs minister Smt. Sushma Swaraj for the opportunity they gave me to serve my country," Akbar has said.

Finally, the Modi government has been saved from immense shame. Ideally, he should have been sacked before he resigned.
