The verdict in the Babri mosque demolition case by a Lucknow-based special CBI court is out. The news is that all 32 BJP and VHP leaders have been acquitted.
The special court held that the demolition was not a pre-meditated act. The court said that there is no evidence to say that it was a planned act. The Babri structure was demolished by Kar Sevaks on 6 December 1992, following which widespread communal disturbances were witnessed in parts of India.
Among those acquitted are former Union Home Minister LK Advani, former HRD Minister Murali Manohar Joshi, former UP Chief Minister Kalyan Singh, former Madhya Pradesh CM Uma Bharti. None of these was present at the court because of COVID-19 related restrictions or age. Uma Bharati has been admitted to AIIMS Rishikesh after she contracted the virus recently.
Welcoming the verdict, BJP National General Secretary BL Santhosh said, "All 32 accused acquitted in the Babri building demolition case. The court rules out any conspiracy behind the demolition. Considers the demolition a spur of the moment. TRUTH PREVAILS."
