Dimple Chopade, the new babe on the block is making her debut in Telugu with Maruthi's 'Romance' to be released on the August 2nd. She is new to the language but not to the screen or acting. With a an academic training in theater and five films in Kannada and one in Tamil, she has some track record to offer. Her debut in Tamil 'Yaaruda Mahesh' co-starring Sundeep Kishen is a commercial success and is being dubbed into Telugu.

In an interview with IndiaGlitz, she candidly talks about her experiences and explorations of acting in different industries, the team and the evolution of youth-centric films as family movies. She introduces her role in ‘Romance’ as a college gal Anu, who is confident and urban. She knows what she wants but is distracted by Krishna. This is about a serious relationship and the commitment therein’

No, ‘Romance’ is not ‘Just For Youth’...

This movie has a great comedy which will entertain youth as well as family audiences. As we all know, audiences are matured enough to take a bit of adult orientation, especially if it is in dialogues, not in action. So, this movie is for all.

I am trained in theater.

I am a Pune girl, trained in stage and theater. I made my debut in Kannada films, I did five in Kannada, then one in Tamil by name ‘Yaaruda Mahesh’. Darling Swamy happened to see the trailer, called me for auditions.

Director Swamy trained me in Telugu...

As far as acting is concerned, I am trained enough and did six movies. About the language, I was trained in dialogues and diction by the director for a week to make sure I am spot on.

Maruthi has a unique command on everything...

The one reason I signed this is coz this is a Maruthi Film. Maruthi knows what’s happening on sets even when he is not there. He had knowledge and control of everything and gave it to his team. So, it’s a good team work, supervised by Maruthi.

Prince is a fabulous co-star

Prince is a wonderful co-star to work with. He helped me in dialogues and spontaneous expression and reactions to his dialogues, especially coz I didn’t understand what he was speaking.

Both are Rom-Coms. That’s it...

My Tamil movie ‘Yaaruda Mahesh’ and ‘Romance’… Both are romantic comedies with an adult touch to it but stories are quite different. YM is about a couple but ‘Romance’ has campus all over it.

Music will bring the house down...

Sai Karthik with his music is a pillar for the movie. Baba Sehgal’s song, my favorite ‘Anu Anu…’ and the hostel song… all of them are absolute rockers. Even my family and friends back home are enjoying the songs despite their lack of knowledge of Telugu.

Eve Teasing in my life...? Not much… I didn’t experience much Eve teasing in my life since I had a theater training, not a typical college. So, Eve teasing has never bothered me and I had a huge friends circle to protect me.

Brand Maruthi is what attracted me...

First thing that attracted me to this project was Brand Maruthi. When I met the director and got the pulse of the story, I felt it would be the perfect launch pad for me in Telugu. I got trained in my lines in the preproduction phase and once the production began, the team was fantastic and I loved the company. I am sure this will rock.

Projects and Pipeline

I have another movie with the same team which will hit the floors in September. Apart from that I am doing two more in Telugu and two in Tamil.

Revealing has to be interesting...

Yes, I can do revealing to an extent the script demands. No, if it’s just for commerce. In ‘Romance’, I didn’t have to reveal much. The most I had is short pants in hostel. That’s it.

I had to lose flab...

I saw both ‘Ee Rojullo’ and ‘Bus Stop’ and was thrilled to be working with the team. Especially the cameraman Prabhakar Reddy… He is a great talent and he knows how to shoot the actor in best of the colors and structure. He asked me to lose weight, I did and he told me the subtle nuances of ‘acting for the camera’

It’s a teamwork...

Entire team shares the credit of a success, not one person. Cameraman, Director, Maruthi, Music… everyone gave their best and I hope this hard work will pay us back.

Yaaruda Mahesh is being dubbed as well...

YM has been successful in Tamil and the dubbed version is to be released in Telugu. Maruthi and Suresh Kondeti are doing the film. I faced the language issues there initially but took some training and managed. I was trained in Sanskrit in my childhood and since basically all South languages are derived from Sanskrit, it never posed me great challenges.

I can’t pick my co-star as yet, Can I...

The film industry is male dominated and I don’t think I would have the opportunity to choose my star. Every star has his own qualities to his credit and so, I don’t mind working with anyone and everyone, as long as my role in the film is well defined and carved.

Kannada, Tamil and Telugu... All are dear to me...

Kannada and Telugu are quite nearby. As I did more Kannada films, I am naturally attached to it. But I learnt a thing or two from all the industries, all of them have fabulous people, very organized, technically brilliant.

‘Romance’ is a movie for all.
