A few days ago, a minor girl was gang-raped in Chattisgarh by two unidentified men. The victim's 19-year old boyfriend couldn't save her as he was apparently overpowered by the rapists. Unable to bear the pain of the incident, the youth has reportedly committed suicide in the state's Korba district.

The police have registered a case against the rapists under the POSCO Act and relevant IPC sections. It's only 12 days after the assault took place that the victim approached the police with a complaint.

The accused are Ishwar Das and Khem, who spotted the two lovers on Sept 1 and questioned their relationship. When the victim's boyfriend protested, he was beaten up. After he fell unconscious, the two youths molested the girl. The police have said that the boy committed suicide as he was overcome by guilt over his inability to save his lover.
