After a good weekend, 'Shootout at Wadala' held on well over the weekdays to ensure a safe run at the box office. Though a section of trade hasn't been as enthusiastic about the eventual outcome of the film, the fact remains that in the final run, the Ekta Kapoor production has turned out to be a plus affair.
Yes, given the pre-release hype as well as sustained promotion for the longest time possible, the film could have gathered better numbers. More so since the critical response to the film too was better than what action masala films usually enjoy.
However, the Sanjay Gupta directed film has eventually turned out to be an above average affair if one looks at the collections of over 45 crores that the film has garnered in its one week run.
The film would now start facing challenge week after week at the box office, what with multiple releases right through the month. In the final result, the film should manage close to 60 crores for itself which would be a fair result overall, though it has to be added that the action multistarrer carried potential to earn around 10 crores more.
On the other hand 10 crores is where 'Bombay Talkies' would be ending its run, what with around 8 crores coming in it's first week. The film had an ordinary weekend and didn't really see any escalation over the week.
While staying stable on the lower side, the multi-director affair would have definitely hoped for at least 15 crores coming in for itself but fell short. 'Bombay Talkies' would have to depend entirely on satellite and other rights to cross the coverage mark.
The film that has crossed the superhit mark, and very comfortably so, is 'Aashiqui 2'. The film has surpassed all expectations whatsoever and has now achieved the unbelievable of entering the 50 crore club.
The biggest surprise in last 12 months after 'OMG - Oh My God!' as far as wholehearted acceptance of audience is concerned, the film is still doing well and could well stretch its way towards the 60 crores mark. Outstanding.
