Box office first, awards later for 'Heroine'

For close to two years Madhur Bhandarkar was carrying the subject of 'Heroine' in his heart.
Now that the D-Day is about to arrive in a few hours from now, the filmmaker is busy with pre-release promotion as well as numerous screenings. In the middle of this all he is also anxious to know how audience would respond to his inside account of Bollywood which may end up throwing a surprise or two.
Even as one waits to see how the film is received by the audience, there are already talks of awards that could be the way for the film which is expected to be as real as it gets.
Well, Kareena has pushed the boundaries and would be seen in a different avtar. She has thrown no tantrums whatsoever and can be seen promoting the film left, right and centre. First aim for both of us is to get the right returns at box office; awards and rewards would follow, says Madhur.
While the director and his actress can obviously be expected to sing appreciation about each other, were the two in as much comfort zone when they started work on 'Heroine'? After all, they have never worked with each other before and since both are known for being head strong personalities with a mind of their own, wasn't it a tad difficult adjusting to each other's working style?
See, one very thing about Kareena is that she surrenders 100% to the filmmaker once she is on board, says Madhur, I too am not too much verbose when it comes to telling an actress about her role. Both of us knew exactly what we wanted to play on screen and ended up tuning really well.
If I wanted an expression to be a notch up or down or felt that there was something that could be made more real, she understood there and then. She has immense grasping potential.
With Arjun Rampal and Randeep Hooda as the male leads along with Divya Dutta, Shahana Goswami and Ranvir Shorey in principle roles, 'Heroine' with music by Salim-Sulaiman releases all over this Friday.
