Long before SS Rajamouli and Prabhas created a tsunami at the box-office with Baahubali- The Conclusion, a Hindi film shook the BO and scared the daylights out of a superstar. We are talking about Gadar: Ek Prem Katha, which clashed with Lagaan on this day 20 years ago.

Speaking to the media on the eve of Lagaan's 20th anniversary, Aamir Khan suggested that the enormity of Gadar's success was something he didn't see coming. Had he seen it, we assume, he would perhaps have postponed the release of Lagaan, which he had bankrolled at great personal risk.

The Dangal actor revealed that he knew the story outline of Gadar and felt that it will script a hit. But when the Sunny Deol flick hit the screens, a tsunami it turned out to be. This affected the collections of Lagaan in North India especially.

Aamir has said that his film, which had cricket, patriotism and great performances going for it, wouldn't have stood a chance against Gadar with lesser quality.

People traveled in trucks to watch Gadar in the nearest town. But Lagaan didn't enjoy that sort of craze. It was a blockbuster but Gadar outperformed it like crazy.

Aamir was cautioned by Karan Johar on the plan to complete Lagaan in one schedule. Nobody warned him about releasing his dream project on the same day as the monstrous Gadar.
