Elderly parents can take back wealth if children harass or desert them

The Bombay High Court has made a historic ruling in a case wherein Senior Citizens who are ill treated or deserted by their children can take back a share of their properties that they had gifted or willed to them. This is seen as a major move to protect old people who are at the mercy of their children and their spouses.

The case was filed by a senior citizen who gifted 50 percent of his flat in Andheri, Mumbai to his son and his wife so that they can take care of him. Since the man had remarried the son and his family did not want to take care of his second wife and so threw them out. The court cancelled the gift deed and gave back the property to the elderly.
