jay Devgan's recently released film 'Drishyam 2' is turning out to be one of the most successful Bollywood films of this year. Despite releasing in a environment unfavorable for remakes and Hindi films in general, 'Drishyam 2' managed to mint around 89 crore rupees on it opening weekend and it showing no signs of stopping. In a recent conversation with Variety, Ajay Devgan stated that 3-4 films like 'Drishyam 2' is all that Bollywood needs to get out of the slump.
The actor said, "To talk about tonic, I feel it needs three or four Drishyams — that is what is required, I hope this is the beginning. The bottom line is all about entertainment. Also, when I watch a film, I really need to enjoy it, whatever the kinds of emotion it has."
Ajay went on to talk about how difficult it is to create something that captivates the audience. He said, “I feel it is not very easy to make entertaining films — you have to keep the audiences engaged for two and a half hours. And audiences have become very smart, so you can’t just give them bullshit. Even when you talk about entertainment in commercial cinema, you have to give them something new.”
Talking about his upcoming projects, he stated, “I want to pick up characters who have done great things and made great sacrifices, and people don’t know much about them. So, we have two or three scripts that we’re working on.”
