Veteran Bollywood actor Govinda was rushed to Criticare Hospital in Mumbai early this morning following an accidental firearm injury. The 60-year-old actor reportedly shot himself in the leg with his licensed revolver while handling the weapon at his Juhu residence. The incident occurred around 4:45 AM as Govinda was preparing for a flight to Kolkata.
Sources say the revolver misfired as the actor was placing it back in a cupboard, resulting in a bullet wound just below his left knee. He was quickly admitted to the ICU, where doctors performed emergency surgery to remove the bullet. Thankfully, Govinda is now stable and out of danger.
In an audio message shared from the hospital, Govinda expressed his gratitude to his well-wishers. "Namaste, pranam. I am Govinda. Thanks to your blessings, my parentsâ blessings, and the grace of my guru... I was shot, but the bullet has been removed. I thank the doctors, especially Dr. Agarwal, for their prompt care. Thank you all for your prayers and support,â he said.
Govindaâs wife, Sunita Ahuja, who was in Kolkata at the time of the incident, immediately returned to Mumbai to be by his side. His daughter, Tina Ahuja, was also at the hospital and confirmed that her father will remain under observation in the ICU for a day before further assessments are made.
Shashi Sinha, Govinda's manager, shared more details, explaining that the accident occurred just as Govinda was about to leave for the airport. "We had a 6 AM flight for a show in Kolkata, and Govinda ji was getting ready when the incident happened. It is due to God's grace that the injury was not more severe," Sinha said.
Family members and well-wishers, including his brother Kirti Kumar, have since visited the hospital. "He has strong willpower. He wanted to be home by this evening, but doctors advised him to stay for a few days. We are thankful for the support of his fans," Kirti said.
Govinda's nephew, Vinay Anand, also commented on his uncleâs positive spirit, adding that Govinda attributed his survival to divine intervention. "He was laughing and said Bajrang Bali saved him. The bullet could have hit him anywhere," Anand remarked.
Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde personally reached out to Govinda to offer support and well wishes. Meanwhile, authorities have seized the actorâs revolver and launched an investigation into the incident.
Govinda, who has appeared in over 165 films and is one of Bollywoodâs most beloved actors, is expected to make a full recovery but will require about a month of rest following his discharge. Fans across the country continue to send their prayers and best wishes for his swift recovery. Stay tuned for further updates on his health and upcoming projects.
