Prashanth Varma's Hanu-Man has emerged as a resounding success at the box office, creating quite a buzz within the industry. Positioned as the first Telugu-language superhero movie, the film has not only rewritten box office records but has also outperformed the Hindi versions of blockbuster hits like KGF: Chapter 1, Kantara, and Pushpa: The Rise during the corresponding time frame. The film, released on January 12, has exhibited remarkable business in its opening weekend, surpassing expectations.
Trade analyst and film critic Taran Adarsh, in a recent post on X (formerly Twitter), shared the phenomenal success of Hanu-Man. On day 3, the Hindi version of the film garnered an impressive â¹6.06 crore at the domestic box office, bringing the total business to â¹12.26 crore in its opening weekend. Adarsh crowned the film as the first hit of 2024 and lauded its noteworthy performance.
The trade analyst expressed his astonishment, stating, Here's a big surprise⦠Hanu-Man first 3-day [opening weekend] total is higher than KGF [first part] and Kantara, at par with Pushpa [note: all Hindi dubbed versions]⦠Yes, you read it right! Hanu-Man emerges first hit of 2024⦠Packs an impressive total in its opening weekend.
Sharing the poster of the film and highlighting its success, Adarsh further revealed the detailed breakdown of the film's box office performance, emphasizing the strong hold in mass sectors as a significant factor in its success.
Despite the triumph, the film has faced challenges, with the makers registering a complaint over alleged unfair theatre practices with the Telugu Film Producers Council. Producer Niranja Reddy claimed that certain theatres that had committed to screening Hanu-Man on January 12 reneged on their agreement, causing substantial financial losses. The producers have urged these theatres to rectify the situation and uphold their commitment to showcase the film, compensating for the incurred losses.
