Two ads of the Layer'r perfume have been condemned by Netizens for promoting rape culture. In both ads, four men seem like they are talking about raping a woman while in reality they are talking about a Shot deo bottle in the vicinity. The women in the ads are petrified when they don't know what the men are actually referring to. They fear that the men will molest them.
A few Bollywood celebs have joined the Netizens in condemning the ads, which have since been pulled out by the brand. Writer-actor-director Farhan Akthar wrote, "What incredibly tasteless and twisted minds it must take to think up, approve and create these stinking body spray ‘gang rape’ innuendo ads..!! Shameful."
Actress Swara Bhasker tweeted, "A teenage girl was gang-raped in Hyderabad-such incidents happen daily in India.. companies like Layerr Shot choose to make TV adverts joking about and ‘cool-ifying’ rape and gangrape. Beyond disgusting! Not just tone-deaf, also criminal! Absolutely shameful! What agency created it?"
So far, Tollywood film celebs haven't condemned the Ads.
