Several people were hurt when a Boeing 737 aircraft went off the runway after takeoff at a Senegalese airport. Ten individuals sustained injuries after the TransAir-operated Air Senegal aircraft slid off the runway at Blaise Diagne International Airport, according to Transport Minister El Malick Ndiaye. According to local media accounts that quote airport press releases, eleven persons were hurt, four of them gravely.
Reportedly depicting the aftermath of the disaster, intense video footage posted on Facebook by Malian musician Cheick Siriman Sissoko shows a panicked scene of passengers escaping the aircraft, which he reportedly claimed had "caught fire."
According to Ndiaye, the incident happened around 1:14 a.m. after a "acceleration stop" during take-off. While the other guests were transferred to a motel, the injured were transported to a hospital for treatment.
In addition, the minister apologized to airport patrons whose flights were delayed and requested an inquiry into the incident's cause."
