The bodies of 7 out of 8 mountaineers have been recovered from the Himalayas as on Sunday. Vijay Jogdande, an administrator of Uttarakhand, reported that the victims have not yet been identified. The bodies will now be brought from an altitude of 5,000 meters to the base camp. Martin Moran, a veteran hiker from England had embarked on an expedition on the Nanda Devi East with 4 Britons, two Americans, an Australian and an Indian.
Moran’s company reported that they had lost contact with the team on May 26th after an avalanche. The group was presumed to be dead. Two weeks ago, five bodies which were recovered were thought to be the missing members. After helicopter missions could not reach the spot, the Indian paramilitary forces and the Indian Mountaineering Foundation undertook ground expeditions. The search for the eighth member is ongoing. Depending upon weather conditions, the evacuation of bodies will be carried out by air or on the ground.
