Blue Mountains Review
Expectations
In the world of glamour, television, social media and films, our dreams are no longer small as everyone aims to achieve something big and unimaginable. The content provided in the films and television show are enough to lure the viewers to start dreaming for it.
We have a reality based television shows where one has witnessed a commoner turning into a celebrity. Something similar was witnessed in many teenage shows including talent hunt and singing based shows. 'Blue Mountains' starring Ranvir Shorey narrates one such tale, but has no buzz around it due to lack of big names and an escapist type of film.
Story
'Blue Mountains' is a story of a teenage boy Som (Yatharth Ratnum) from the valleys of Himachal Pradesh. His father Om (Ranvir Shorey) wants him to pursue his studies and go abroad, while his mother Vani (Gracy Singh) wants him to become a successful singer. Vani herself was a famous singer in her times and thus with the help of her guruji trains Som to become a talented singer.
One day, accidentally Som appears for an audition of a teenage talent show and gets selected. Som is introduced to a new world of fame, glory and success. But before he could enjoy the fruits of success, his life takes a drastic turn.
The 'Glitz' Factor
The basic story idea is fantastic and has some similarities with the real life happenings of Yatharth Ratnum. The whole message behind this movie is brilliant and goes apt with today's times, where children are mesmerized by the glamorous world of reality based talent shows. The locations of Himachal Pradesh are great. Kare Kare Badra' song is fantastic.
Director Suman Ganguli comes up with a brilliant concept which is a harsh reality in today's times. He also manages to get a real life talent Yatharth Ratnum in the movie. Yatharth Ratnum enacts the performance scenes very well. Ranvir Shorey and Mahesh Thakur are fine in their small parts. Arif Zakaria lends good support.
The 'Non-Glitz' Factor
The execution of the movie is so bad that besides a couple of scenes, there is nothing much to boast about. The movie is presented in tacky manner. The whole reality show track looks weak and at times trashy.
The second half of the movie deals with the melodramatic track with loads of repetitive scenes and overstretched screenplay. The entire depression part is shown in loud and non-connective manner. The entire over aggression of Yatharth seemed fake and unwanted. Some of side tracks look super forced in the movie.
The movie is unnecessarily stretched to its fullest, ruining and highly diluting the flow of the film. The cinematography is not up to the mark. The background music is jarring.
The weak screenplay, tacky production values and over the top performances ruin the movie. The whole point gets lost due to these blunders. This movie would have been a great short film.
Yatharth Ratnum fails miserably in the emotional and romantic scenes. Gracy Singh seems to have forgotten her acting skills and hams. Rajpal Yadav is unwanted. Simran Sharma looks cute, but acts terribly bad.
Final 'Glitz'
'Blue Mountains' will leave you with the feeling of Monday blues, due to its tacky presentation and weak performances. The concept is brilliant and has potential to be explored again in the near future.
