In what could hurt the BJP’s interests in the long run in the State, Jameela, one of the most outspoken leaders and the women’s wing general secretary of the BJP in Tamil Nadu, resigned from the primary membership of the party.
Jameela, who is also the media secretary and spokesperson of the party, had earlier joined the BJP in 2015 in the presence of Union Road Transport Minister Pon Radhakrishnan. A doctor by profession, she was immediately given important assignments and she continued to speak supporting the BJP on various platforms.
She was the party’s losing candidate from Chennai’s Royapuram Assembly constituency during last year’s Assembly polls. Not taking active role in the party’s affairs during the past few months, Jameela has now sent her letter of resignation to the party’s State Unit president Dr. Tamilisai Soundararajan.
“I’ve been with the party for the past two years after I joined the party impressed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s work. However, I find myself at variance with the party’s views on certain issues in the past few months. I find that members of the minority Christian community might find it difficult to survive in the party and thus tender my resignation forthwith from the party’s primary membership,” the letter said.
