Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Tamil Nadu has warned the Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK) not to indulge in violence or unprovoked attack on its cadres.
BJP and VCK have been on war-path for the past couple of weeks ever since Tamil Nadu BJP president Dr. Tamilisai Soundararajan and VCK president Thirumavalavan indulged in war of words on the Mersal controversy. VCK cadres have been protesting against Tamilisai wherever she goes by holding black-flag demonstrations.
The recent meeting of BJP cadres in Karur ended in a scuffle between the BJP and the VCK cadres. Yesterday, when Tamilsai went to Mayiladuthurai, she was shown black-flags in protest by VCK cadres which provoked yet another clash between the cadres, creating uneasiness and tension in the locality.
Speaking to newsmen in Karur, Tamilisai said that the BJP won’t remain a mute spectator to increasing incidents of violence by the VCK. “It’s not a good precedent that the VCK has started BJP like an ‘enemy’ on the Mersal controversy. In a democratic set-up, views/expressions ought to be encountered only by opinions and thoughts and not by violent means,” she concluded.
