Ila Ganesan (LG to party folks and to his RSS friends), senior BJP leader from Tamil Nadu and who is also a Rajya Sabha M.P., has stated that the State Unit of the BJP was for setting up the Cauvery Management Board to manage the Cauvery waters.
Though the apex Court directed the Centre to set up the Board within six weeks, the BJP-led Centre hasn’t done so apparently with an eye on the upcoming Assembly polls in Karnataka. Speaking on the same lines, Union Water Resource Secretary said last Friday that the Supreme Court didn’t direct the Centre to set up a Cauvery Board but only asked the Centre to constitute a Committee to supervise water sharing.
Tamil Nadu held an all-party meeting and passed a resolution urging the Centre to set up the Cauvery Management Board at once. The State Legislative Assembly in Chennai also passed a similar resolution urging the Centre to set up the Board as soon as possible to resolve the water-sharing row with Karnataka.
Speaking to newsmen, LG assured that the Centre was taking concrete steps to set up the Cauvery Management Board. “Centre is keen to implement the Supreme Court’s directions in this regard. State BJP is fully in agreement with the general perception that setting up the Board is an inevitable solution to the river-water sharing row with Karnataka,” he said.
On another note, he defended the Centre’s delay stating that it was studying the issue further. He also denied DMK’s allegation that the Prime Minister didn’t give time for its team to meet him. “The Prime Minister only told them to meet the concerned Union Minister before coming to see him; there is nothing wrong in it,” he concluded.
