Superstar Rajinikanth has announced that he will not be participating in the event to distribute newly built houses to the Eelam Tamils in Jaffna, Sri Lanka on April 9, 2017. The houses have been built by Gnanam Foundation run by Subhaskaran of Lyca Group of Companies.

Rajinikanth cancelled his visit to Sri Lanka owing to the request of Tamil Nadu politicians Thol Thirumavalavan, Vaiko and T.Velmurugan.

However prominent BJP politician Subramanian Swamy had earlier said that he will praise Rajinikanth if he visits Sri Lanka, ignorin gthe resistance from politicians. Now that the Superstar has cancelled his trip, Swamy has criticised him with strong words as expected.

Tamil Nadu BJP politicians Tamizhisai Soundararajan and H.Raja have also criticised Rajinikanth's latest decision.
