The Congress today said that the ruling BJP only knows how to distract the people's attention when it fails continually. Saying that India is witnessing economic slowdown because of the failure of GST, among others, the opposition party also accused the saffron party of causing "chaos and anarchy".

"BJP follows a playbook: When the economy crashes, sectors across the board face unprecedented slowdown and the public starts questioning, make sure to arrest prominent Opposition leaders to distract people from the truth," the party said.

It added, "After all the chest-thumping and cries of development, the BJP government is too embarrassed to reveal the truth that the GST failed to collect adequate revenue and the government was forced to go to the RBI to bail it out. When India questioned the move, the BJP did what it does best: Distract."

The criticism comes a day after the arrest of senior Karnataka Congress leader DK Shivakumar.
