Debendra Nath Ray, a BJP MLA from West Bengal, was on Monday morning found hanging outside a shop in North Dinajpur. The spot where he was hanging to a tree is reportedly about a KM away from his residence, from where he was picked up by unidentified people at the midnight.
Given the nature of political violence in Bengal during the rule of Mamata Banerjee, many are suspecting that it was a political murder. The members of the deceased MLA's family have demanded an impartial probe.
A video clip of the hanging has found its way into the Internet.

Reacting to the incident, psephologist Yashwant Deshmukh tweeted, "The murder of BJP MLA in WB is a chilling reminder of bloody politics in the state. The Left Front ruled the state with terror for decades. Mamta Banerjee fought that terror with unparalleled determination. Never thought she would use the same tools and ideas after becoming CM."
