The BJP on Thursday released its manifesto ahead of the GHMC elections. After the TRS announced a slew of sops, the saffron party is clearly trying to be as populist as it can.
At a time when a vaccine for coronavirus seems to be just a few months away, the manifesto says that it will be in consonance with the Centre's guidelines. The BJP has promised to scrap the Layout Regularisation Scheme, which the party said will lessen the burden of people to the tune of Rs 15,000 Cr.
With the KCR government giving Rs 10,000 as flood-relief compensation to Hyderabadis, the BJP said that it will raise it to Rs 25,000. This promise was recently mocked by KT Rama Rao, who challenged the BJP government at the Centre to do it without having to win GHMC polls.
Pursuing the Delhi model, the BJP promised free travel to female commuters using the Metro and city buses. Provision of free tabs to poor children is yet another of its freebie. In a bid to woo SC votes, it said that property taxes will be waived off in Dalit colonies.
One more freebie came in the form of a promise to provide free power to houses consuming less than 100 units per month. On the housing front, financial assistance of up to Rs 1 lakh will be provided to the eligible under the PMAY.
In keeping with the Centre's Jal Jeevan Mission, taps and free drinking water will be provided to all houses.
At a time when the River Musi's state has become a talking point, it promised to rejuvenate the river. Sumedha Act will remove all encroachments.
Up to Rs 10,000 Cr will be provisioned towards the modernization of open nalas and drainages.
