Former Union Finance Minister Yashwant Sinha has said that the ruling BJP at the Centre had lost the moral right to speak about corruption with party president Amit Shah’s son Jay Shah committing huge irregularities in amassing wealth through his firm which had been closed down abruptly.
“The BJP has lost the moral ground to speak against corruption,” says Sinha, who remains sidelined by the party along with seniors such as L.K. Advani and Dr. Murli Manohar Joshi. Sinha, who had held the posts of Union Finance Minister and Union External Affairs Minister in the cabinet of former prime-minister Atal Behari Vajpayee, has been on over-drive criticizing his party’s recent measures on economy.
Taking up Jay Shah episode and joining the Congress in criticizing the BJP, Sinha said that the BJP had lost moral ground after the scandal involving Jay Shah (son of party chief Amit Shah) surfaced. “A thorough inquiry should be ordered into the entire episode and about the manner in which Govt. Departments connived in the matter. Solicitor General Tusshar Mehta appearing on behalf of Jay is condemnable.
“Never in the history of Indian judiciary a serving Solicitor General had defended an individual’s case. Amit Shah’s son has been granted favours by some Departments. Union Minister Piyush Goyal’s statement in support of Jay Shah confirms that there is ‘something’ more than which meets the eye,” Sinha said in a statement.
