The BJP on Sunday filed a police complaint against the song 'Digu Digu Digu Naaga', which was released last week. The song is from 'Varudu Kaavalenu', the upcoming movie starring Naga Shaurya. Lyricist Ananta Sriram's name has been mentioned in the complaint. The writer has been accused of offending the sentiments of Hindus.
In its complaint, the BJP Mahila Morcha said that lines from a devotional song have been abused for an item song for commercial purposes. Shot on Ritu Varma and Naga Shaurya, the song is not the first one to have such lyrics. A seductive Vani Viswanath song in an old film also had similar lyrics in the 'Pallavi' part. Composed by Thaman, it's sung by Shreya Ghoshal.
While the complaint was lodged in a village in Andhra Pradesh's Nellore district, the campaign against the song is not limited to a legal one. As per a report, BJP has also started an online campaign against it.
Directed by newcomer Lakshmi Sowjanya, 'Varudu Kaavalenu' is produced by S Naga Vamsi of Sithara Entertainments. Starring also Murali Sharma and Nadiya, the rom-com also features Vennela Kishore, Praveen, and Harsha Vardhan in different roles. Vishal Chandrashekhar is its main music director.
