In what may be a blow to the BJP, NCP's Ajit Pawar today tendered his resignation days after being sworn in as the Deputy Chief Minister of Maharashtra. The resignation came hours after the Supreme Court ordered that the Devendra Fadnavis government must prove its majority by Wednesday 5 pm.
Ajit's resignation has lent strength to the view that he may have duped the BJP. Even Amit Shah may have been taken for a ride by the cunning nephew of Sharad Pawar. He doesn't seem to have many MLAs on his side.
Earlier today, senior journalist Nikhil Wagle had this to say, "The best way out for Devendra Fadnavis is to RESIGN. If he is not able to prove his majority on the floor of the house, he will suffer permanent credibility loss. Ajit Pawar has cheated on him. Now he should know, overconfidence kills!"
Later today, Devendra will address the media.
