Buoyed by victories in Assembly polls, Congress president Rahul Gandhi stated yesterday that it won’t be ‘easy’ for the BJP to win the upcoming polls including next year’s Lok Sabha polls.

Congress managed to topple the BJP and oust it from power in Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh, a huge achievement in the backdrop of BJP’a high-pitched campaign. Sources point out that the anti-incumbency factor against the respective State Governments as well as people’s general resentment against the BJP-led Centre reflected hugely in these results.

Speaking to newsmen at the Party’s Akbar Road headquarters in the national capital, Rahul sounded confident. “I thank all those who voted for the Congress; it is the victory of the party’s cadres, farmers, the poor and the people. This has entrusted us with more responsibility and we would act accordingly. We shall make people in Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh and Madhya Pradesh feel proud for electing Congress as the BJP’s alternative. We shall change the people’s future for the better.

“There has been a high anti-incumbency wave against the BJP-led Centre. People have realized that Modi has done nothing fruitful; things would become very tough for the BJP in the days to come. People are hard-bit by GST and demonetization and have shocked the BJP duly and appropriately. Modi has paid dearly for cheating people in general and farmers in particular.

“Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) aren’t a solution to fair polling; these machines don’t work properly at all times. Many countries have done away with the practice of using EVMs,” he noted.

On a sarcastic note, Rahul didn’t fail to target Modi by stating that the latter had taught him quite a few lessons on ‘what not to do’ (to antagonize the people). “The Congress is slated to win next year’s general elections,” he declared authentically.
