Karnam Malleswari needs no introduction if you have been following the journey of India at the Olympics since the 2000s. At the Sydney Olympics 20 years ago, the Telugu sportswomen became the first Indian woman to win a medal in the history of the Olympics.
The news is that a multi-lingual biopic on her inspiring journey has been announced by Tollywood producers MVV Satyanarayana and Kona Venkat of MVV Cinema and Kona Film Corporation.
The film will be directed by Sanjana Reddy. Star writer Kona Venkat, who has been associated with a number of commercial entertainers, has penned the script.
Releasing the project's first pre-look poster, the makers suggested that the film comes with the caption: 'Journey of a girl who lifted the nation'.
Karnam was born in 1975. "In 1997, she married a fellow weightlifter Rajesh Tyagi, and in 2001 gave birth to a son. She planned to return to competitions at the 2002 Commonwealth Games, but withdrew due to the death of her father. She retired after failing to score at the 2004 Olympics," says a Wikipedia post.
