A Bihar policeman who showed up drunk at his wedding landed in jail after his bride lodged a complaint against him. Bihar has enforced a prohibition on alcohol since April 2016.
The incident happened on Thursday night at the wedding of Uday Rajak, a constable of Nalanda, and Anusha Kumari. The news of the groom's inebriated state reached Anusha's ears after a few members of the bride's family were allegedly assaulted by Uday and a couple of his family members who were also intoxicated. The bride immediately called the local police station and informed them of the brawl. A breath analyzer test confirmed that Uday was drunk and was arrested on Friday, even though the groom's family tried to persuade Anusha against her complaint.
A case has reportedly been filed on the policeman under Sections 341, 323, 504, 188, 290, and 34 of IPC besides Section 37(C) of Bihar Prohibition and Excise Act, 2018. After being produced in a court on Friday, he was moved to jail on judicial remand.
