In a shocking incident reported from Bihar's Patna, a 30-year-old man died of the novel coronavirus infection barely two days after his wedding. Over 100 relatives of the bride and groom, who attended the ceremony, have tested positive for the virus.
The 30-year-old deceased man used to work as a software engineer in Haryana's Gurugram and his wedding was held at a village in rural Patna's Paliganj block on June 15. He had returned from Gurugram on May 12 with symptoms of coronavirus, but his family allegedly ignored the same and organized the wedding ceremony with more than the permitted number of guests. When his symptoms worsened two days after the wedding, he was rushed to AIIMS-Patna for treatment by his family members. However, he died on the way to the hospital and his family cremated the individual's body without informing the district authorities. "A local anonymously informed the administration about the groom death, following which samples of the deceased groom's relatives and his neighbours were collected for testing. A total of 24 people tested positive for COVID-19. After this, the administration traced and collected samples from guests, who attended the wedding. Of them, a total of 79 people tested positive," an investigating official reportedly stated.
A total of 369 people had attended the wedding, leading to the first ever case of mass spreading of coronavirus in Bihar. Over 300 samples have been collected from local vendors, neighbours and other people, who might have been exposed to the virus as the administration has begun the contact tracing procedure.
